A review of market acceptability of commonly recycled materials in Scotland (2015)

This presentation was given to the steering group of local authority waste managers that formed to agree the content of the Household Recycling Charter and associated Code of Practice

It provides insight into the specifications of recycling materials that are commonly collected at the kerbside by local authorities in Scotland, covering: glass, paper, card, metals, plastics, beverage cartons and other less common materials.

The review provided feedback from collectors, sorters and reprocessors of each material to gain a better understanding of what specific items should be targeted by local authorities, such as plastic bottles, films, pots, tubs and trays.

This study informed section 3.5.1 of the Charter Code of Practice, which was then subject to a peer review from 26/32 Scottish local authorities.
