Corporate Plan 2024 – 2030

As a society, we consume far more than the planet can sustain.

It’s a global problem that’s driven by our global economy which is based on a ‘take-make-dispose' approach involving extraction, production, consumption and discarding of products and materials after use often leading to waste and environmental harm.

In Scotland, our economy required the equivalent of 22 tonnes of materials per citizen per year – almost three times the sustainable consumption level established by scientists.

The circular economy is the best tool we have to turn this around while maintaining a high quality of life.

Using less, using longer and using again

The circular economy can help us value the products and materials we use and keep them in high-value use for longer.

At its heart the circular economy is based on three principles – using less, using longer and using again – all of which will reduce costs, grow the economy and accelerate a wellbeing economy that’s fairer and healthier as well as more sustainable.

Our Corporate Plan

Our Corporate Plan outlines how we will support this vision in the next five years, driving progress towards the sustainable Scotland we all want to see.

Our strategy

Our new plan is a rallying cry for Scotland to go even further and faster, with greater focus and determination, to ensure our future economy is in balance with the Earth’s natural systems.

Re-wiring the economic system is our only choice.

Through sharing this knowledge, nurturing relationships, and bold collaboration, we’re in a truly unique position to influence this vital change. To do this we must:

We advocate for change, by informing why we must reduce overconsumption of natural resources and demonstrating how we can do it.

We identify and implement the conditions required to enable circular economies to flourish across Scotland.

We inform and support accelerated change in key sectors that require high levels of raw materials.

We evidence and demonstrate the infrastructure to keep materials in constant use.

We can all do more to consume less. So, let’s rewire the economy, for people, planet and our prosperity.
