The webinar provided an opportunity for stakeholders to put questions to our expert panel on packaging EPR ahead of submitting consultation responses.

This webinar was broadcast live on 20th May 2021.

Extended producer responsibility (EPR) for packaging ensures that the producers pay for the full cost of dealing with packaging at the end of its life. This will help ensure increased packaging recyclability.

Zero Waste Scotland is supporting the Scottish Government in its discussions with UK Government, DAERA in Northern Ireland and the Welsh Government to inform the development of a new EPR scheme for packaging.

A new EPR scheme for packaging will offer many environmental benefits such as reducing material use, improving packaging recycling and helping in litter prevention - another important step towards a circular economy in Scotland.

Panel members:

  • Jamie Fry – Policy Analyst, Zero Waste Scotland;
  • Emily Rae – Project Manager, Policy, Research and Evaluation, Zero Waste Scotland;
  • Nathaniel Chalamanda – Specialist, Producer Responsibility, Scottish Environment Protection Agency.
