What to do with crockery and cutlery?
We all end up with crockery and cutlery that we don’t want anymore. Some break, some are hand-me-downs from great-grandma, or sometimes you just end up with an incomplete set (maybe the dish did run away with the spoon!).
Household recycling collection
Crockery and cutlery can’t be put in your household recycling bin.
Household waste recycling centre (HWRC)
Broken crockery is accepted in the ‘hardcore and rubble skips’ and metal cutlery can be recycled in the 'metals' skips.
What about disposable plates, bowls and cutlery?
Try to avoid using disposable cutlery and crockery - if you are having a party you can hire tableware kits online.
Clean paper or card can be recycled, if it is dirty it cannot be recycled.
What can you do?
Sell it online! Use websites like Gumtree or eBay.
Donate to a charity shop or local reuse organisation (only if good condition).
Check to see if there is a local art charity that might want old crockery for breaking into mosaic fragments.
Old metal cutlery can be repurposed to make bracelets or wind chimes - find tutorials on YouTube.
Recycling is constantly evolving and changing so check back for updates or try our recycling locator to find out what you can recycle at home and where you can recycle or pass on unwanted items in your local area.
