Empowering local action - a place-based approach to circular transformation

28 Feb 24

Zero Waste Scotland hosted an accelerator session at the World Circular Economy Forum 2024, focusing on how cities and regions are breaking down systemic barriers and championing circular transformation.

The event brought together global pioneers to share best practice for fostering grassroots circularity and explored how we could harness our collective expertise to co-create transferable solutions.

Despite innovation and creativity in this domain, it was very clear that structural challenges still persist - financial constraints, lack of enabling policy, capacity and technical knowledge gaps, lack of citizen engagement and siloed governance structures can often hinder the full potential of local ambitions.

Our event summary shares the findings of the event and how, globally, we are overcoming these challenges and driving circular transformation from the bottom-up.
