Zero Waste Scotland are now looking to recruit to a number of new posts within its Business and Innovation Directorate. The organisation is going through a period of growth and transition and this is an exciting time to join us and be at the heart of pioneering analytical, research and evaluation work which supports our circular economy and net zero ambitions 

Our current business plan (available via our website) has a number of high priority commitments to deliver over the next 4 years that have been identified as pivotal to our ambition to transform and deliver where we can have the greatest environmental impact. We now require an expansion of our economic and analytical capabilities to support this. 

This is an exciting time to join a growing community of analysts, working closely with economists, environmental analysts and colleagues across the business to address some of today’s most pressing societal challenges. You will bring a passion for the circular economy and an ability for rigorous analysis and strong communication of complex ideas. 

Reporting to the Government Policy Manager, you will take a lead role in in defining, evidencing and implementing our policy work to advance Scotland’s circular economy and progress to net zero.

You will co-design relevant research and analysis, drawing on international best practice and collaborating with economists, environmental analysts and other colleagues, and translate this into advice to Zero Waste Scotland and our sponsors (primarily Scottish Government). The role will also build the case for high-impact policies by developing excellent relationships with government and other stakeholders.

The ideal candidate

You will be educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant discipline, with strong industry, market and technical understanding of one or more of our core policy areas (circular economy, resources, waste and net zero) and a successful track record in managing projects and external contractors in this area of expertise. You will be experienced and highly competent at achieving evidence-based policy impact through consultations, briefings and research reports, as well as liaising with political institutions and decision-making processes. With excellent communications you will have an innate ability to foster strong and positive relationships with key stakeholders in government other external bodies and across the business.

Salary and benefits 

The pay range is £42,135  - £46,817  (Grade E) and the successful candidate will be appointed to the starting point.

Location:  Stirling / Flexible / Homebased working considered

This role is based in our Stirling office located next to Stirling railway station and is conveniently accessed from across central Scotland.  We are leading by example in reducing our carbon footprint by embracing hybrid and permanent home working and actively encourage this for colleagues where practicable. There will be times for business needs that you are required to attend the office or a client location (normally within the Central Belt of Scotland)
