Government Policy Manager


Do you want a role shaping the policy of the future?

As part of our growing ambition Zero Waste Scotland are looking to recruit an energetic, proactive, and skilled policy professional into the Business Development and Innovation Directorate to help us develop our policy agenda and contribute our expertise and insight to debates about the future.

You will be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, on your own initiative, as well as leading a collaborative and dynamic team. You will have excellent knowledge of policy development and legislative processes and the ability to use evidence and problem-solving skills to develop creative policy approaches; and excellent interpersonal skills that enable you to build strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. You will have a deep understanding of policy and government affairs work, the ability to write policy, a commercial and strategic mindset, an excitement for the things that are happening in our sector, as well as an ambition for personal growth. This role will lead on Government Policy with the aim of acting as a critical link, connecting the Scottish Government with Zero Waste Scotland’s research, and connecting Zero Waste Scotland with policymakers needs and expectation.

Location:  Stirling / Flexible / Homebased working considered

This role is based in our Stirling office located next to Stirling railway station and is conveniently accessed from across central Scotland. We are leading by example in reducing our carbon footprint by embracing hybrid and permanent home working and actively encourage this for colleagues where practicable. There will be times for business needs that you are required to attend the office or a client location (normally within the Central Belt of Scotland).  

Our organisation

Zero Waste Scotland exists to lead Scotland to use products and resources responsibly, focusing on where we can have the greatest impact on climate change.  Using evidence and insight, our goal is to inform policy, and motivate individuals and businesses to embrace the environmental, economic, and social benefits of a circular economy.

We are a not-for-profit environmental organisation, funded by the Scottish Government and European Regional Development Fund.
