Circular Economy Cities & Regions Manager

Zero Waste Scotland, Scotland’s resource efficiency and circular economy expert, is looking for an experienced professional to assist us in realising the ambitions of the Scottish Government’s Circular Economy strategy and Zero Waste Scotland’s ERDF Resource Efficient Circular Economy Accelerator Programme.

This is an exciting opportunity to drive a place-based approach to a circular economy, working with communities, towns, cities, and regions across Scotland.  You will take a lead on driving change within a distinct locale, understanding the opportunities for circularity in that area, developing innovative approaches to realise and embed those opportunities.  You will be responsible for building on the success of the approach taken to date including initiatives such as Circular Glasgow, Edinburgh, Tayside, and North East.

Working within the Circular Economy Stakeholders & Partnerships team, you will be responsible for engaging with a wide range of stakeholders, and building on national and international best practice to build a clear profile as a circular economy expert.

With a focus on collaborative opportunities, you will develop strong relationships with businesses, supporting the development of a pipeline of projects to the Zero Waste Scotland Circular Economy Investment Fund and Business Support Service, working closely with other Zero Waste Scotland Sector Managers.  Additionally, you will be expected to manage contractors delivering projects on our behalf and ensure that businesses are fully supported during their journey towards adoption of circular economy business practices.

The ideal candidate

To be successful in this role you will have significant stakeholder engagement experience and the ability to work persuasively with businesses and a broad range of stakeholders to develop and implement circular approaches.  You will be educated to degree level or equivalent or hold a relevant professional qualification. You will be an excellent communicator and be able to demonstrate strong organisational skills with experience of developing and implementing project plans successfully.  You will have an understanding of the principles of circular economy and associated technologies and business models.  An understanding of local government and economic development is also advantageous.

We welcome applications from all suitably qualified and eligible candidates regardless of sex, race, disability, age, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, religion or belief, marital status or pregnancy and maternity.

Salary and benefits

£40,503 (pay range is £40,503 - £45,003 and the successful candidate will be appointed to the starting point).

We offer excellent benefits; including a contributory pension scheme, private healthcare, life assurance, employee welfare assistance and generous holidays.

Our organisation

Zero Waste Scotland exists to lead Scotland to use products and resources responsibly, focusing on where we can have the greatest impact on climate change.

We’re working to create a more circular economy where products and materials are kept in high-value use for as long as possible. A large part of our work is helping individuals and businesses to become more resource-efficient. This all contributes to the Scottish Government’s circular economy strategy and the EU’s Europe 2020 growth strategy.

This role is based in our Stirling office located next to Stirling railway station and is conveniently accessed from across central Scotland.

This role is funded by the Scottish Government and the European Regional Development Fund.
