Three green gifts for businesses this Christmas

Resource Efficient Scotland is encouraging Scottish businesses to take advantage of a trio of online resources this Christmas to kick-start long-term change in environmental performance. In addition to advising organisations on making greener decisions, the tools will enable them to make significant savings.

Resource Efficient Scotland is a Zero Waste Scotland programme designed to provide a one-stop-shop to help businesses reduce their energy, water and raw materials usage. By combining their Resource Efficiency Pledge, Savings Finder and Green Champions Training Course tools, organisations can create the perfect package for making a change as they go into the New Year.

The Resource Efficiency Pledge asks businesses to complete between three and six actions over the course of 12 months, ranging from engaging staff to cut their energy use to implementing measures to reduce waste. Businesses can sign up to the pledge on the Resource Efficient Scotland website, where they will also find a range of free support tools to help them fulfil their pledge.

The Savings Finder highlights key areas for improvement by providing organisations with a comprehensive report based on current resource use. Decision makers just need to complete a quick online questionnaire to receive instant access to a host of recommendations specifically tailored to their organisation.

Organisations can complement their actions with the Green Champions Training Course, an online resource providing staff with the skills and knowledge to implement more resource efficient processes and support their organisation in its efforts. Compiled by resource efficiency experts, the course comprises nine modules and is completed entirely online.

Soil remediation company Soilutions signed up to the Resource Efficiency Pledge in September to demonstrate their existing commitment to the environment and further improve their performance.

John Curran, managing director of Soilutions Ltd, said: “We are dedicated to improving the environment and by signing up to the Resource Efficiency Pledge we are able to seal this commitment and articulate our sustainable credentials to our clients. Over the coming months we hope to encourage as many of our customers as possible to join us in being more environmentally aware while we make changes to our own processes, including full commitment to recycling and looking for opportunities to reduce our transportation and minimise the use of virgin aggregates. “

Marissa Lippiatt, Head of Resource Efficient Scotland said: “We’ve calculated that organisations in Scotland could save as much as £2.9 billion every year by making more efficient use of their resources, and individual organisations could save thousands of pounds a year. Our three tools offer simple advice towards retrieving these costs, making them the perfect Christmas gift to organisations looking to save money and improve their green credentials in the New Year. “
